Fair Maiden "Twas the Night Before Christmas"

Happy Christmas Eve, Twinklings!!  This is easily my favorite day of the year; Christmas is fun in a mellow, stupified kind of way, but Christmas Eve is the day full of glowing possibility, and tonight, glittering wonderment.  I hope you have your jewels ready!  You may not have the Heart of the Ocean on hand in your treasure chest, but fortunately the fabulous ladies of Fair Maiden have created a gem-like holiday lacquer that I think you will agree is a quite acceptable substitute ;)

And, if you look closely, you might even see the visions of sugar plums dancing in this sapphire treasure.

"Twas the Night Before Christmas" is a saturated fantasia indigo shimmer flushed with a brilliant purple sateen sheen worthy of the Sugar Plum Fairy herself.  The camera is most enamored by the deep ultramarine tones seeping through the violet hues, but while this polish does lean on the blue end of the spectrum, the blue-purple balance is just precarious enough to qualify as indigo (or "blurple", as the color is popularly monikered, though personally I prefer the mystique of the word "indigo" myself, and also appreciate the absence of homophone qualities inelegantly reminiscent of unattractive bodily functions ;) ).  This lacquer reminds me a bit of the cobalt washes and burning, nearly-magenta brights rendered by ultraviolet imagery, as perceived by butterflies, bees, and dare I say, faeries?

"Twas the Night Before Christmas" has a lovely formula that is absolutely opaque in three coats and applies in an even wash of pigment and opacity.  The first coat goes on like indigo smoke, ethereal and enchanting, and you'll probably love it just like that, if you don't mind some visible nail line or if you choose to french tip or glitter gradient over it.  The ultrafine ultramarine shimmer quickly accumulates opacity and saturation to the gemstone brilliance I've presented here, and evades the streaky brushstroke curse of many fine shimmers to instead evoke the smooth, luxe sheen of duchess satin.

"Twas the Night Before Christmas" and the rest of the *Baby, It's Cold Outside* collection may be found at Fair Maiden Polish for $9 each or $32 for the whole collection (see "Sleigh Bells in the Snow" and "The Stars Are Brightly Shining" here).  I believe that they are very limited edition at this point so act fast if you're in love!!

Which is more exciting within the framework of your holiday traditions: Christmas Eve or Christmas Day?
